Goals

Promote better understanding of ecological processes in the study of different levels of biodiversity (genes, species and ecosystems), contributing to conservation and sustainable use.

Understanding of ecological processes, and our ability to use this knowledge to inform biodiversity and for conservation planning.

  • Contents

    The advanced course includes seven modules and four thematic lectures, aiming to introduce basic knowledge in areas of Biodiversity Conservation & Ecology, covering different areas, such as: (i) Biodiversity Conservation - from genes to ecosystems; (ii) Introduction to recent applications in the field of "e-Biodiversity"; (v) Analysis and interpretation of ecological data, using Multivariate Analysis; and (iv) Analysis of environmental data and Ecological Modeling. In addition, other topics of interest will be addressed, such as "Extraction, Characterization and Applications of Natural Products" or "Ecological Biochemistry" in order to understand the mechanisms underlying the interactions between plants and the environment, including adaptation to environmental stress, or symbiosis".
